In the Schönthaler hemp block, decades of tradition meet sustainable innovation. Since the 1960s, the Schönthaler brickworks in Eyrs (South Tyrol) has stood for reliable quality. Since 2015, however, we have also become the first point of contact for builders, architects, and companies who want to give their new construction or renovation projects something special - both visually and functionally.
Hemp is not only fast-growing, but also offers outstanding thermal, acoustic, and indoor climate properties. It is non-flammable, resistant to mold and pests, moisture-regulating, and breathable. In addition, hemp-lime blocks are CO₂-negative and fully recyclable or compostable.

Water. That’s all it takes to produce a hemp block through our gentle air-drying process - whether in custom or industrial quantities.
Made from hemp shives and lime, a building material is created that is more than the sum of its parts. And it is built to last: hemp blocks are highly durable and 100% recyclable.

Thermal regulation:
Insulates, stores, and regulates heat. Keeps interiors cool in summer and warm in winter.
No additional insulation required:
Ideal for low-energy and passive houses (38 cm wall = ClimateHouse A Nature, U-value 0.18).
Dry and fresh:
Regulates humidity, ionizes indoor air, and prevents mold and pests.
Sound insulation:
The coarse surface improves room acoustics (38 cm hemp block with plaster = −48 dB).
Sustainable & cradle to cradle:
Fast-growing raw material, CO₂-negative (−90%), fully recyclable.
Safe:
Extremely fire-resistant (12 cm hemp block with plaster = fire resistance class EI 120, reaction to fire B, s1, d0).

In addition to Schönthaler hemp lime bricks, we offer other products made from and with hemp, such as robust hempcrete, which can be mixed and form-worked directly on site, as well as hemp base and fine plasters for sustainable plastering.
One special product we offer is the zero-waste hemp acoustic panels from SAPPA Panels: aesthetically appealing, sustainable and completely recyclable.
Hempcrete & Hemp Plaster
Hempcrete: Cost-effective for builders with a lot of DIY time and aesthetically appealing for walls that are left plaster-free on one side.
Hemp plaster: A better alternative to clay plaster, with customizable color and texture.
SAPPA Acoustic Panels
From industrial waste (hemp stem shives) an aesthetically unique, individually customizable design element is created with excellent acoustic properties. Cradle-to-cradle with style!
